How to use Compress Image
- Drop in up to 50 JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP files, or use Select Files - each row shows the original size before anything is re-encoded.
- Output Quality starts at 70% and moves in 10% steps; it only bites on lossy output, so a PNG comes back the same detail at whatever size the encoder can reach.
- Leave Resize Options on Auto Scale, which is selected when the page loads and caps the longest side at 1920 px (a 4000x3000 test JPEG came back 1920x1440), or pick Original Size, 50% or 75%.
- Choose Output Format when the container itself is the problem: JPG, PNG and WEBP all convert for real, and a 37 KB test JPEG became 7.3 KB as PNG and 2.9 KB as WebP.
- Optionally wrap the names in the Prefix and Suffix boxes, press Compress Images, read the size and percentage against each file, then take Download All for a compressed_images.zip.
What Compress Image actually does to your file
Re-encoding runs on this tab through the browser canvas, so how much you get depends on what the file already is: that 4000x3000, 2.5 MB JPEG landed at 295 KB (−88%) in about a second at 70%, while an already-tight screenshot can come out bigger and the row then honestly says "no gain at this setting". GIF is the one to watch - the canvas cannot write an animated GIF, so with Output Format on Original the untouched bytes are handed back (a 2.4 KB test GIF stayed exactly 2.4 KB); switch it to WEBP or JPG and the same file dropped to 986 bytes. Extensions always follow the bytes inside the file, so if your browser cannot encode the container you asked for, the download is named for the format it really is and the page lists which files were affected.
Compress Image FAQ
What does Compress Image do?
Free high‑quality image compressor for JPG, PNG & GIF. Compress images by up to 80% online in seconds—secure, easy, and no installs required.
Which files work with Compress Image?
This category commonly supports JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, and SVG. Use the accepted file types shown in the uploader, because support varies by browser and by the engine behind each tool.
Does compressing reduce the quality?
Yes, size comes from discarding detail. Start near the middle of the quality range and look at the result; if it is not small enough, lower the quality rather than re-compressing the same file several times, because each pass loses more.
Will my original file be changed?
No. The work is done on a copy in this tab by the canvas and the codecs built into your browser, and the result arrives as a separate download, so your original is still there if you need it.
How is my file processed?
It is not uploaded. The processing is done locally by the canvas and the codecs built into your browser, so the practical ceiling is your device's memory and the limit shown beside the uploader - no queue, no account, no copy on a server.
Is the Compress Image free?
Yes. The Compress Image is free with no trial limit, subscription, or watermark on downloads. You can use it for personal and commercial projects without creating an account.
