JSON to YAML
Use JSON to YAML, review the result, and keep the original until the output is checked.
How to use JSON to YAML
- Paste JSON into the JSON pane, or YAML into the other side, and the opposite form appears as you type.
- Load a .yaml or .yml file instead of pasting when you are working from a config already on disk.
- Look the output over before you reuse it: the rewrite is a data conversion, not an edit of the text you pasted.
- Copy the result or Download the JSON and YAML files.
What JSON to YAML actually does to your file
Only the data survives the trip. Comments, anchors and aliases, key order and the original quoting style are all discarded when YAML is parsed, so a file you convert here and paste back into version control will show a large, meaningless diff - treat this as a way to read or re-shape values, not to reformat a file in place. A document that packs several records separated by --- lines is not handled as a set. Long strings are re-wrapped at the library's default width, which can look like a broken single-line value until you rejoin it. Use the JSON editor page when you want to keep a specific layout.
JSON to YAML FAQ
What does JSON to YAML do?
Use our free online tool to convert JSON to YAML and YAML to JSON. Fast conversion, error checking, and syntax highlighting, all in your browser.
Which files work with JSON to YAML?
This page converts in both directions, so it accepts JSON or YAML. The exact types and per-file limit are shown beside the controls.
What can I change with this tool?
The controls on this page define the scope. Anything the format supports but the tool does not expose will be left as it came in.
Will my original file be changed?
No. You paste text or open a file to read it, the result appears in the other pane, and only what you copy or download leaves the page.
How is my file processed?
It is not uploaded. The processing is done locally by the parser bundled with this page, so the practical ceiling is your device's memory and the limit shown beside the uploader - no queue, no account, no copy on a server.
Is the JSON to YAML free?
Yes. The JSON to YAML is free with no trial limit, subscription, or watermark on downloads. You can use it for personal and commercial projects without creating an account.
