View PDF Metadata
Use View PDF Metadata, review the result, and keep the original until the output is checked.
How to use View PDF Metadata
- Press Select PDF Files and load one or more documents.
- Read the table beside each file: title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, dates, page count and the size of the first page.
- Check the technical lines too - PDF version, whether the file is linearised for fast web viewing, and whether it is encrypted.
- Use Export Metadata to save the report as JSON, Text, CSV or XML, or Clear to start over.
What View PDF Metadata actually does to your file
This page is read-only: it reports what the file already declares and writes nothing back, so nothing you do here can damage a document. It sees further than the editor does - the reader also exposes raw XMP metadata, page count and the encryption flag, which is the quickest way to find out who produced a file and when. Encrypted files are listed but cannot be opened for reading, since no password is requested, and a date the producer wrote in an unusual format can come back as "Not specified". The export is yours to keep as evidence of what a PDF claimed about itself; files are never uploaded.
View PDF Metadata FAQ
What does View PDF Metadata do?
Use our free online tool to easily read and check the metadata of any PDF. View essential properties like title, author, keywords, and more in seconds. Fast and simple!
Which files work with View PDF Metadata?
This category commonly supports PDF and exported JPG or PNG pages. Use the accepted file types shown in the uploader, because support varies by browser and by the engine behind each tool.
Should I strip metadata before sharing?
If the file is going to a public audience, yes: remove location, device and author fields. Editing tools usually rewrite only some tags, so check the result rather than assuming.
Will my original file be changed?
No. The work is done on a copy in this tab by pdf.js and pdf-lib, and the result arrives as a separate download, so your original is still there if you need it.
How is my file processed?
It is not uploaded. The processing is done locally by pdf.js and pdf-lib, so the practical ceiling is your device's memory and the limit shown beside the uploader - no queue, no account, no copy on a server.
Is the View PDF Metadata free?
Yes. The View PDF Metadata is free with no trial limit, subscription, or watermark on downloads. You can use it for personal and commercial projects without creating an account.
