How to use Merge PDFs
- Press Select PDF Files and choose at least two .pdf documents - the line above the list shows how many files and pages are queued and tells you to add one more while Merge PDFs is still inactive.
- Add the files in the order you want them to appear, or drag a row later to move it - pages are copied file by file and the merged document follows the order shown, not the order you picked them.
- Tick Add Page Numbers if every page needs a small number in the bottom-right corner.
- Only if the sources are cut on different paper, set Page Size to A4, Letter or Legal and Page Orientation to Portrait or Landscape - each page is then resized onto one sheet size instead of keeping its own.
- Press Merge PDFs, read the line that names the page count of the result, and check it before you Download the file as edittools_merged-document.pdf.
What Merge PDFs actually does to your file
Nothing is uploaded: the files are opened and rewritten inside this browser tab, so a large document is limited by your machine rather than a connection. Pages are copied at the object level, which keeps text selectable and searchable instead of flattening the document into pictures. Left on Auto each page keeps the size it was cut at, so a mix of A4 and Letter stays mixed and reads as a slightly untidy stack; choosing a paper size instead fits every page onto that sheet, shrinking to fit and centring, never enlarging, so a small receipt joins a full page of white rather than being blown up. Two checks matter afterwards. A file that is password-protected or damaged is named on screen and left out of the result so the rest still merges - and if nothing could be read you are told that instead of being handed an empty document - while interactive parts of the sources (form fields, comments, links and bookmarks) do not survive the copy, although printed content and page numbering do. Remove Duplicate Pages is the narrow kind of tidy-up: a page is dropped only when its drawn instructions, page box and rotation match a page already kept exactly, which is what happens when the same file goes in twice, and a page that merely looks alike because it was re-typed or re-exported is kept. The closing message counts the pages that came out and how many identical ones were removed.
